Description of the tour

Abraham lake houses some of The Rockies’ most renowned experiences and endless views. The area is a hub for outdoor enthusiasts, with winter opportunities to fish, ice climb, camp or hike, but there is more to explore than we see at first glance.

Our winter canyoning trip is for those who want a little more excitement than a regular snowshoe or ice walk; to enjoy stunning views that people rarely see.

This 3 hours trip is the perfect addition to a day trip or weekend of enjoyment in the Abraham Lake area, leaving extra time for a hike on the lake or to set up camp. No rope experience is needed and only moderate physical shape is required.

We will be bringing you to visit one of our most scenic canyons, towering walls smoothed by Millenium of running water, coupled with glittering ice falls. We will be hiking, scrambling, and rappelling on ice, while spectating unbelievable scenery!

Enjoy a totally different experience in a frozen paradise that few people get to explore! Traveling across the bottom of this deep and narrow gorge is a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

On our winter Canyoning trip, you will stay dry, as there is no swimming or wadding.

Winter canyon tours are for those who have no previous canyoning or related experience.

How to dress and what to bring?

We have all the specific gear for you to stay safe (harness, helmet, etc.).

We ask you to come dressed up as if you were going skiing or on a winter hike (warm synthetic multilayers, clothes that allow you to move with ease, no cotton). You should have a pair of warm gloves. Winter hiking boots are the best but any winter boots should do as soon as you can walk with ease and are comfortable.

Hand and toes warmers on cold days are a good idea if you know your hands and feet get cold easily.

Some water (500ml per person) and snacks or a lunch for full-day tours.

You can bring your own small hiking backpacks (max 35liters)

Meeting location and progress of the tour

We meet our clients at Windy Point Parking along Abraham Lake and then drive together the few last kilometers to the parking area of the canyon.

There, we gear up and have a short talk about the progress of the day.

Then we hike to the mouth of the canyon (1 km).

From there, we hike/scramble up the canyon all the way to majestic 60 meters frozen waterfalls.

After a short break, we will start our descent rappeling smaller ice waterfalls.

At the bottom of the canyon route, we hike back to the car.

The meeting time and the end of the day can be arranged depending on your expectations, the size of the group, and the conditions of the canyon.
