Description of the tour
Alpine canyon trips are for those who have already been on a tour with us, so we know what canyons will be suitable for your next tour, or for canyoners who want to go further. Send us your outdoor resume, so we can assess what canyons we can do with you. The Alpine trip is a step toward autonomy or a way to do canyons that you would not do on your own if you are already a canyoner.
You need to be in excellent physical shape and should have previous rope and/or Swiftwater experience. You should be comfortable with heights and Swiftwater anyway, and be able to scramble, swim, and rappel on your own. The canyons we visit are not extreme, but the goal is to have you completely involved in the descent, and in higher-level canyons than you are used to.
We are guiding in a multitude of canyons that allow us to operate most of the season. We usually plan the trip the day before the tour and decide in which canyon we will bring you depending on your skills and expectations, the canyons’ conditions, and the weather forecast. If you want to descend a specific canyon, please let us know and we will try to accommodate.
The equipment
We have all the specific gear for you to stay safe (harness, helmet, etc.).
You only need to bring a bathing suit, a jacket (windbreaker, light rain jacket or hardshell), some shoes (running, approach, or light hiking shoes that can go in the water), and a towel.
Some water (1.5 liter per person) and snacks and a lunch for full-day tours.
Meeting location and progress of the tour
We meet our clients at a suitable location along Abraham Lake and then drive together the few last kilometers to the parking area of the canyon.
There, we gear up and have a short talk on the plan for the day.
Then we hike up to the upper entrance of the canyon (usually between 30 and 90 minutes of hiking).
From there, we descend the canyon (between 3 and 8 hours inside the canyon, depending on the tour and the size of the group).
At the bottom of the canyon route, we hike back to the car.
The meeting time and the end of the day can be arranged depending on your expectations, the size of the group, and the conditions of the canyon.
